On Chesil Beach

An experienced reader can understand it was an experience of a writer either directly or indirectly about a failed date.

What happens is, when you fail yourself in bed, you look-out for reasons for such failure and revenge.

It is a story about Edward and Florence on honey-moon debacle. Both of them are virgins without much experience about sex, they fail on their first attempt. The trauma behind such failure leads them to divorce look absurd and pathetic coz You fumble in the beginning that is the beauty of sex.

Sex is not an art but an act for reproduction. Misfiring the target always happens in all parts of human life.

It is more of an experience of the author who misfired and got separated on a date, due to ego.

Blaming the female character in the final chapter was pathetic and also giving so much details about the aftermath (Edward) of that incident and forgetting to mention about the female character (Florence) itself exposes it is his personal experience direct or indirect.

He wrote about a hero old-age and he never revealed the success of the woman who left and lived a successful life.

The family background of Edward and Florence was immaterial to the novel coz that never influences their mis-happening on their bed on the first night, hence they are just fillers.

But you can count on this
it is a real time incident of someone misfiring her date on bed.
